Hagastaden, the dynamic innovation district bridging Stockholm and Solna, has been nominated for the prestigious Lighthouse Award at the inaugural Global Institute on Innovation Districts (GIID) Global Summit Awards. The Lighthouse Award celebrates established innovation districts that have made significant impacts through their unique research and development capabilities, contributing substantially to local and regional growth and competitiveness.

The GIID Global Summit took place from April 9–11, 2025, in Monterrey, Mexico, bringing together leaders from innovation districts around the world. This award honors districts that have developed distinct strategies, repurposed existing infrastructures, and designed public spaces that foster collaboration and vibrant community life.

Since its inception in 2010, Hagastaden has transformed into a hub for life sciences and innovation. Home to over 175 life science companies, including global leaders like AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Bayer, the district thrives on the synergy between academia, healthcare, and industry. Institutions such as Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital anchor the area, fostering a collaborative environment that accelerates medical research and technological advancements.

The district’s design emphasizes sustainability and connectivity, featuring green spaces like Norra Stationsparken and plans for new metro stations by 2028, enhancing accessibility and promoting a seamless urban experience.
