This week at The Park, biomedical scientist, entrepreneur, and artist Dr. Ina Schuppe Koistinen led an inspiring workshop exploring the intersection of science, art, and movement.
With more than 25 years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D and academic research, Ina now leads women’s health microbiome studies at Karolinska Institutet and is co-founder and CEO of Cutis Skin Health Sweden. Beyond her scientific work, she is also a watercolor artist and certified yoga and dance teacher, combining disciplines to spark creativity and new ways of thinking about health and innovation.“
Creativity and embodied practices open doors in the mind that traditional scientific training often keeps closed,” she shared. “When I paint, dance, or move, I shift out of linear problem-solving and into a state where intuition and pattern recognition can emerge.”The session combined lecture, discussion, and movement, encouraging participants to reconnect with their bodies as tools for insight and innovation.
“Science can learn from art to embrace ambiguity and trust the process,” Ina reflected. “And art can learn from science the value of inquiry and understanding underlying mechanisms. Together, they expand each other’s boundaries.”
Her advice for those seeking to bring more creativity into their work was simple: “Start small, ten minutes of movement or a quick sketch can already shift your perspective. Creativity is not a talent; it’s a muscle. Mindfulness is not a performance; it’s a practice.”
The event captured the spirit of The Park’s community, where science, creativity, and curiosity meet to inspire new forms of collaboration and growth.
